When looking to work with a graphic designer to help you design a logo for your basketball team, you’ll want to see their portfolio of logos and especially any other logos they have designed for a sports team or sports venue. You can hire a designer, or there are places online where you can actually design a logo from a free or paid template.
At times, you may want to include either the team members, school staff, parents, or other community members as an opportunity to be part of the basketball team’s logo design. You could hold a logo contest and choose the design with the highest votes. Ask the team players and school staff what they think may be a good representation of that particular team.
When you need a logo designed for you team, there will be certain elements to look for and factors like gender and level of basketball played when choosing a design. Basketball is one of the top sports played and is popular with many people. Where many other sports have one star like football’s Quarterback or two adversaries like a pitcher and hitter in baseball, basketball is truly a team effort. All the players must work in concert and the game is non-stop action. There are basketball leagues for men and women separately.
Choosing Elements for Your Basketball Team’s Logo
1. First, consider if your team is made up of male or female members. A men’s team would be easier as the logo would be open to a design that reflects just the sport of basketball. A woman’s team needs all the same elements, but there may be a color scheme or a look that reflects the team’s name and femininity.
2. Then consider the level of proficiency in your particular league. There are many junior high and senior high school teams that play each other and teams in other leagues. A logo for these teams must stand out; represent your team possibly with the colors from that high school, and as always, include a basketball. High school logos may also be a bit simplified over other logos from higher leagues.
3. College level basketball teams will usually be associated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, or be part of divisions such as Division I, Division II, or Division III. If you are coaching a college level team such as one of these, there may be colors or an insignia from your college that would be included in the team’s logo, defining them as representing that college. It would be advantageous to consult with the college staff and administrators to get their input on images, colors, and design.
4. Of course, there is the NBA, National Basketball Association teams that are the absolute professionals. These teams deal with millions of dollars and would be hiring a professional design artist, or already have long-standing logos deeply entrenched in their history with the NBA.
All these factors take part in deciding on what design you’d like for your particular basketball team.
